As in previous weeks, I trust all remains as well as can be expected with you all.
Please remember that if you would like to speak with me during the week simply reply to this email and we can arrange a suitable time to talk properly, either by telephone, Zoom, or on a socially distanced walk.
Please note there is now a new number for the church office. You can find that below my signature.
For the last time here is a link to this week’s address/podcast. It’s called:
Adopting the role of umpire and letting the role of player go . . .
The reason why this is the last time I’ll circulate to the congregation a link to the address/podcast is explored in more detail in the above piece but, essentially, the basic reason is simple. The past few months of lockdown Zoom conversations have helped me see that a more fruitful approach in future will be to concentrate on umpiring an open-ended Socratic conversation rather than being a player within it. In short, I’m going to be leaving my own bat at home and only donning for you the white coat and Panama hat of the umpire! To this end, the next series of conversations, probably starting in mind-May, will centre on any themes, thoughts or questions that those attending are minded to bring to the meeting. As before, I’ll send you a Zoom link the week before it takes place. I look forward to conversing with some of you then.
However, my blog and an occasional podcast will continue and, should you ever be intrigued to spin over and see or hear what’s occupying my own personal thoughts then please follow the links underneath my signature. You’ll always be welcome.
And, lastly, as always, if on reading this you decide you would like to join the Sunday morning service of mindful meditation and time of conversation following and you do not have the necessary Zoom link then please contact either me, by replying to this email, or, via the contact page of our website by contacting our secretary, Brendan Boyle. Just look through the dropdown tabs to find “Secretary”:
Please log in between 9.45am and 10am. The meditation starts at 10am sharp, and finishes at about 10.50am. There will then be a short break to allow you to stretch your legs, compose your thoughts, or put the kettle on. The ‘Time for Conversation’ will start at about 11am, and if you aren’t taking part in the meditation, feel free to sign in during the break for the conversation.
To get the most from the meditation, you will find it helpful to either print out the order of service or display it in a second window. Here is the link:

You might also wish to have a small candle or tea-light to hand to light at a certain point during the meditation.
A representative recorded version of the service is available for download via my podcast site here:
