A message from the Trustees of the Cambridge Unitarian Church concerning the job of “part-time administrator”:

The administration of the Church has always been done on an entirely voluntary basis, spread amongst the members of the old committee. We believe this has become increasingly unsustainable and, following discussion of this at our AGM in April, the recently elected Trustees have begun to seek a part-time administrator. The job description is attached to this email, and we would be very grateful if you could share with it any individuals or networks that you think might be relevant. Thank you.

A reminder of the special service on Sunday, June 2nd to celebrate the 90th birthday of the minister emeritus, Frank Walker:

This special service, consisting of readings from Ronald Blythe’s Akenfield, music (played on the organ by John Dillistone), hymns and prayers, is to be conducted by Frank Walker himselfThe special collection will be for Médecins sans frontières, MSF (Doctors Without Borders), who work in conditions of greatest need and danger throughout the world. Following the service, all are invited to share a multitude of refreshments in the church hall.

A note of other church activities on Sundays or during the week:

Marianna writes: “We have the beginnings of a poetry group, meeting monthly to read, write and recite poems. We plan to meet in person, either in our own homes or, should a larger group form, we shall book the hall. Current views suggest we’ll meet during the week, day-time.” For more details, please contact Marianna by email: ringofvoices@gmail.com

1) Join us for An introduction to The Decelerator

Dear friends,

Please circulate this invitation widely amongst your congregations:

Are you going through a time of change and transition in your Unitarian and Free Christian community?

I am writing to invite you to a free webinar with Linda Craig and Iona Lawrence from The Decelerator, hosted by Lizzie Kingston Harrison, our Congregational Connections Lead here at the GA.

Monday 3rd June, 7pm- 8.30pm
Zoom link

Iona and Linda work for the Decelerator – an organisation that gives support to civil society organisations. They offer information, tools, and hand-on support to help organisations work with endings, closures, change, transformation, and transition. They are working with us to help support you and your community and offer bespoke advice, tailored to your needs.

The Decelerator exists because change involves endings. While endings are inevitable, bad endings do not have to be. They work with organisations to ensure that change happens well.

Come along to this webinar to find out about Iona and Linda’s work and how they can help you and your congregation implement change, steward endings, and find new beginnings.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact Lizzie Kingston.

2) “Meet the Honorary Treasurer”
Wednesday, 15 May at 12.30 pm

John Bates has been appointed as the General Assembly’s new Honorary Treasurer, as of our April annual meetings. For those of you who weren’t there, or who haven’t yet had a chance to get to know him, we invite you to join an open Zoom meeting to hear more about the role of Honorary Treasurer, and John’s perspective on the GA’s financial picture as he takes on this role.

John is a graduate of Harvard Business School, and a retired Adjunct Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School, with fifty years’ experience in business and education. He joined Cambridge Unitarians in 1991 and later was a member of Islington Unitarians. John became Chair of New Unity when it was formed in 2015, before stepping down in 2022. He joined the GA’s Executive Committee in 2023.

All are welcome to this event — please share with your congregations!
