A note from Penny Morris from the Cambridge Creative Synergy (aka Friday Group) about T’ai chi on Sat 3 October and Sun 18 October plus a workshop on Moral AI: AI for Health & Well-being on Sat 10 October
Cambridge Creative Synergy (CCS) is an independent and mutually supportive group promoting good mental health and well-being for people living with the effects of mental distress. We meet every Friday at the Unitarian Hall 12-4 pm to cook and eat together, with creative or therapeutic activities available.
CCS is funded by Cambridge City Council under the Community Grants initiative.
Hello everyone,
This October, Cambridge Creative Synergy (CCS) are running 2 x T’ai Chi sessions and the second workshop in our AI, Health and Well-being series.
Alison Warlow will run a relaxed, informal T’ai Chi/Qigong session with refreshments, starting at 3 pm this Sat 3 Oct and again on Sun 18 Oct from 2 pm. At the accessible Unitarian Church Hall CB1 1JN, on the corner of Emmanuel Road, opposite the Bus Station.
The second AI, Health and Well-being workshop on 10 October will explore the potential benefits, impact and implications of AU systems and rooms for our health and well-being.
‘Moral AI for Health and Well-being’ is hosted at the Unitarian Church Hall by CCS in collaboration with other community groups and sponsored by the journal AI & Society (Springer). Starting from 1030 on Saturday 10 October, it includes a home-cooked community lunch and relaxed discussions sharing ideas and experiences. There is a growing urgency to create and promote AI technologies that support empathic awareness and mutually supportive relationships with compassionate carers.

An invitation from Nick Butler-Watts to the GA’s Innovation Fund Q&A and Virtual Coffee, Thursday October 8, 1-2pm
Hello,
You are warmly invited to join me for an open house virtual coffee and Q&A session over Zoom for the Unitarian Innovation Fund:
Thursday 8 October, 1 – 2pm (drop in when your schedule allows)
Please register here to receive the Zoom link and calendar invitation
If you have an idea for a new project or initiative that you have been sitting on, a question about whether your congregation would qualify, or you just want to hear what the fund has been up to in its first year… please bring your lunch and a cuppa, pull up a chair and join me.
I’ll be ready to talk through whatever the room wants to explore, such as specific questions on people’s ideas, or practical advice on applying.
I’ll also share examples of projects we’ve funded, and broad themes and areas we are particularly interested in supporting next.
The next application deadline is 9 November, so if you are thinking of applying, this is a good moment to come and talk it through first in a relaxed, open conversation.
This is an open event; please feel free to circulate this amongst your Unitarian community.
And if you can’t make this particular time and date, feel free to book time to meet with me.
With best wishes,
Nick

A message from Elizabeth Burleigh at City of Sanctuary (CoS)
Hi All
Hannah, at CoS, has let us know about a free training scheme for faith communities.
With organisations supporting migrants continuing to be targeted, and with many groups navigating an increasingly difficult climate, Hannah has just resent the CoS crisis communications toolkit, along with a few other thoughts and practical tips. It’s a bit much to send in this email, but if you’d like to receive it, please contact me and let me know: elisabethburleigh@hotmail.com
In the meantime Hannah has highlighted this:
The Home Office is running a new free training scheme Faith Security Training (FST) https://www.gov.uk/guidance/faith-security-training, for faith communities in England & Wales.
A CoS group has just shared this with me as they have just attended one of these trainings and said it was very helpful — the group who attended are not a faith organisation but were still allowed to attend.
There are in-person and online trainings available when you go onto the portal — I can see London and Cardiff listed for the next few weeks.
Apparently there is also funding available to make buildings (with active congregations) more secure. So please do pass this onto faith organisations in your area.
Best wishes, Hannah
Also, here is request for help from Ali, with a 20 min survey aimed at people and orgs supporting refugees and people seeking asylum, in any capacity.
“I graduated from City of Sanctuary’s Sanctuary in Politics programme in 2025 – this experience gave me the skills, knowledge, and confidence to begin working as a Research Assistant at the University of Cambridge, focusing on support provision for asylum seekers and refugees.
In this role I am currently studying the state of asylum and refugee support provision across the UK. We have developed a survey aimed at people and orgs supporting refugees and people seeking asylum, in any capacity. The survey will take about 15-20mins to complete.
Survey available here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/L55atAhWhu?origin=lprLink
This survey forms part of that research and aims to better understand how community and refugee organisations support refugees and people seeking asylum, as well as the challenges and opportunities they encounter in doing so.
I would be so incredibly grateful if you could take the time to complete the survey and assist our research.
Many thanks, Ali”
