A message from Andrew Bethune, our Church Chairman also sent out by email on Friday night
Dear all,
Carol Service – 18 December – 10.30am
We are starting to make detailed plans for the Carol Service, which will replace the usual Mindful Meditation on 18 December. Myrna and I met yesterday to talk through possibilities for the choir music and for congregational carols.Mark Mason is getting a choir together. If you are a singer and would like to take part, please let me or Mark know as soon as possible. There will be two rehearsals – the first on Sunday 11 December after the Mindful Meditation, and the second on 18 December before the service. We’re also needing some volunteer readers. Please let me know as soon as possible if you’d like to help with that.
Mince Pies
After the Carol Service, we plan to serve mince pies, sherry and a festive non-alcoholic beverage. Any donations gratefully accepted!
CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) Status
We are about to submit our CIO application to the Charities Commission. Many thanks to Rosemary Watson who has done the bulk of the work of preparing the application. Now we just have to wait until the Charity Commission gets back to us – this could be some weeks or months, I understand.
Advent/Christmas Appeal
Every year we choose a good cause (usually a local one) for our Advent/Christmas Appeal. This year your committee decided again to invite you to support Rowan Humberstone, an arts centre and forest school for adults with learning disabilities. Indeed one of our church members is a student there. Since 1984 Rowan have provided a safe, creative, and enriching environment where the arts are used as a tool to bring people together and tackle social exclusion. Rowan is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, for 50 weeks a year. Students can specialise in one area or join a number of different workshops. Each workshop is run for 6-10 students per session, enabling students to develop their individual social and communication skills and participate in a stimulating group experience. Workshops can be attended for full or half days to suit each individual. Students can choose to work on their own personal projects, on Rowan’s commissions, or make things to sell such as our popular mindfulness Finger Labyrinths, which we sell across the world! The forest school, opened in 2020, enables students to be creative and connect with nature.
